Een werkwoord als zelfstandig naamwoord: gerund
De gerund maak je dus door middel van hele werkwoord + -ing.
Wanneer gebruik je de gerund?
* Na een voorzetsel:
I’m not good at saving money
I’m worried about taking my exams
* Na:
can’t stand: I can’t stand looking at that picture
can’t help: I can’t help laughing so much
it’s no use / no good: It’s no use trying to get it work
It’s worth: It’s worth studying for your exams
Feel like: Do you feel like going out on Saterday?
There’s no: There’s no denying he sings well
Be busy: I am going to be busy cleaning my car
* Na sommige werkwoorden. Hieronder vallen onder andere
admit (toegeven): He admitted stealing the money
avoid (vermijden): I always avoid travelling during rush hour
enjoy (genieten van): I enjoy watching football
hate (haten): I hate waiting in the rain
like (leuk vinden): I like playing computer games
love (houden van): I love swimming.
start (beginnen, starten): I started swimming when I was four
stop (stoppen): I can’t stop laughing
finish (eindigen): I usually finish working at 5 o’clock
prefer (voorkeur geven aan): I prefer drinking tea
begin (beginnen): We began working at 8 o’clock this morning
remember (herinneren): I remember being afraid of the dark as a young child
keep (doorgaan met): He kept complaining
